How does wegovy work?
Wegovy acts on the part of the brain which are involved in regulating your appetite.
Furthermore it increases feelings of fullness, reduces feelings of hunger and reduces the preference for high-fat foods.
In addition it also reduces blood sugar by promoting the release of insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Another name for semaglutide is Ozempic, which is used to treat type 2 diabetes because it can reduce blood sugar.
Wegovy is a higher-dose version of Ozempic (semaglutide), which is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Wegovy works by:
1. Reducing hunger and increasing feelings of fullness
2. Slowing gastric emptying
3. Reducing body weight
Before taking wegovy
You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to it or if you have:
- multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (tumors in your glands);
- a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (a type of thyroid cancer); or diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment).
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- a stomach or intestinal disorder;
- pancreatitis;
- kidney disease;
- eye problems caused by diabetes (diabetic retinopathy);
- have or have had depression or suicidal thoughts, or other mental health issues.
